Synopsis: A shuttlecraft on an exploratory mission in the Gamma Quadrant finds Vash alone on a planet and in need of help. They bring her back to the station along with her curios from archeological digs in the quadrant. Q pays a visit to the station to try and convince Vash to travel with him again as they did when they left the Enterprise together in the episode QPID. Vash has no plans to go with Q and there is some obvious enmity between them. Instead, she joins with Quark in a business venture to sell the items she has found in the Gamma Quadrant. Meanwhile, a strange energy drain befuddles the crew of the station and draws them inexorably closer to the worm hole.

Synopsis: Two Bajoran factions in dispute over territory enlist Sisko's aid in negotiations. One faction, led by a inexperienced child named Varis, is holding lands claimed by the other faction, led by Wolban. The original boundary between the two is a river which had been diverted from its course by the Cardassians. Varis is befriended by Jake and Nog, who help her to find a compromise.

Meanwhile, Dr. Bashir and Chief O'Brien travel to Bajor to tend to an ailing leader of a village. The leader, known as The Sirah, is responsible for chasing away the Dal Mok that visits the village for 5 nights every year. The Dal Mok is a fearsome storm made up of unknown energy and The Sirah (or Storyteller) is the only one who can chase it away. When the Sirah dies of old age, he chooses O'Brien as his successor.
